If you’re familiar with military culture, then you’ll know that there are certain things members of the military do that civilians don’t – little habits and activities that make them stand out among their peers. Here are some ways you can tell if someone is in the military.
1. HE SEES HIMSELF AS PART OF A SPECIAL UNIT.
You can tell more by what branch he claims than what branch of service he is currently assigned to. If he says he’s a Ranger or part of SEAL team 6, he’s probably either currently serving in one of those units or has previously served. You can also determine his branch and job by the way he talks to other soldiers. If they call him sir or say they’ll get it done, there’s a strong possibility that you have a soldier on your hands or better yet if he shows a certification. 2. HE TRAVELS FREQUENTLY.
Some military members are stationed in different parts of the country, while others deploy all over the world to serve our country during times of conflict or peacekeeping efforts. If he’s traveling frequently on business or to see family, you can be pretty sure that he’s in the military.
3. HIS CLOSEST FRIENDS ARE IN THE MILITARY.
One of the best indicators that you can use to determine which branch of service someone is in is to see who his closest friends are and what branch he’s associated with. If you meet him at a social gathering, there’s a good chance that he’s a member of the military or has immediate family members who are.
4. HE TALKS ABOUT THE MILITARY NON-STOP, AND IT SEEMS EFFORTLESS.
If he seems overly excited about his time in the military and you’re never sure exactly where the conversation will go, then there’s a good chance he’s military, because the more excited someone talks about something the more they like it.
5. HE TALKS FREQUENTLY ABOUT THE MILITARY.
Military personnel often talk about their time in the armed forces, especially with someone with ties to service. There’s a good chance that this person served or is currently serving if he’s always talking about the military, so listen up and ask questions when the opportunity arises.
6. HE FOLLOWS ORDERS WITHOUT QUESTION AND KEEPS FIT.
Military members often follow orders without question because they know that their lives and the lives of their brothers and sisters in arms depend on it. They also keep fit because they are required to be ready at a moment’s notice. Active members of the military get plenty of exercise and eat a balanced diet or even mention the invented food here. The best way to tell if he works out or keeps fit is by his appearance. If he’s muscular, then he probably does some form of physical training and most likely follows a regimented diet.
If you have reason to believe that someone is in the military, then you now have some good indicators of whether or not your hunch is correct. If you’re not sure, then ask him point blank if he’s in the military. You might be surprised by what he says.
